PRIVATE SWISS BANKING! WHAT’S THAT?

Living in Switzerland and particularly in the heart of Geneva one can hardly avoid the banking industry and particularly the Swiss Private Banking sector even though it is certainly discreet.

Many people ask what is special about Switzerland that banking is so embedded and so secret. So to answer this question I went direct to the horses mouth. I asked a senior partner of one of Geneva’s private banks. This is what he said.

“First of all it is important to understand that the private banking sector started for the first time in the world in Switzerland and Geneva at the time of the French revolution.” “Therefore private banking is endemic in the Swiss business culture.”

“ Another aspect is that Switzerland is in the centre of Europe and has a stable political and economic basis. It is neutral in world politics and upholds human individual rights to privacy. The latter point is the origin and the seed of private banking. Switzerland has an objective world vision and understands the need for a place or country which is at peace with all the world, which respects the need to speak frankly without fear or risk.”

“There are other additional factors such as Geneva being a centre of banking excellence and has been recognised as such for more than two centuries. Therefore there is a long heritage of tradition and experience.”

“Switzerland is also known for its excellence in engineering, from large projects to the most intricate, small and accurate control systems and watches. In addition it is certainly known for its prowess in the art of refined chocolate manufacture. It has a stable currency albeit that it does fluctuate slightly on the foreign currency market. Geneva is one of the worlds three oil trading centres. The other two being London and Dubai. Swiss companies also rank as world leaders in many industrial and other fields, including pharmaceuticals, food products, renewable energy to name a few.”

“Because of its long history for banking and private banking secrecy, there is a large pool of expertise with generations of families with banking know how in their blood. Geneva has over the past 30 years changed in many aspects including a notable shift in its climate, now resembling a Mediterranean city. It is a modern city that is also small by many standards. The international airport is ten minutes from the centre by taxi or bus due to its policy for developing perhaps the most modern and frequent public transport system in the world, which has priority vis a vis cars and lorries. Also the train from the central station only takes about 4 minutes to the airport. Trains from the airport terminus are destined for all parts of Switzerland and every train departure stops at Geneva’s central station before continuing its journey. Therefore whatever time you exit the airport, it is just a case of a few minutes walk to the station where there is almost certainly a train about to leave for the centre of Geneva. Trains from the central station also go direct to France with the TGV ( French high speed trains) leaving for Paris also Lyon and the south to Aix en Provence, and Marseilles. Swiss high speed and luxury trains also depart for Italy, Austria and Germany. The Swiss have a good sense of public support and at the same time business sense. For the moderate cost of a season ticket one can travel by train, bus, tram and ferry anywhere in Switzerland for half price.”

“Therefore Switzerland and particularly Geneva is convenient and also a very nice place to live and do business thus also a good reason for virtually every bank in the world wanting to have a slice of the Swiss banking cake and particularly the private banking sector.”

“It is estimated that 25% of the worlds wealth is in private hands and those people have a tradition of having their money managed in Switzerland. They have a confidence and trust in Swiss banks and particularly Swiss private banks. In today’s market Switzerland cannot claim to be better than any other country’s private banking system because banking expertise is world wide and completely interlinked.”

“Therefore what Switzerland and particularly Geneva has is tradition, trust, a highly developed banking security system and a pool of banking technology and expertise second to none in the world.

The privacy issue is something that is gradually disappearing as governments apply more pressure for private banking to be open to disclosing the interests of their nationals. However, the Swiss policy of having favourable tax laws compared with other countries also being open to negotiating tax levels with the wealthy bringing their money to Switzerland makes for a win win situation for Switzerland and its banking industry.”

“Certainly some of the Swiss private banks particularly those in the north of the country did make a mistake in the way they handled the Jewish gold issue of a few years ago but in general their aim is to make as few mistakes as possible. That was a wake-up call that the Swiss banking industry took very seriously. Consequently, while the secrecy issue is largely a thing of the past the atmosphere of secrecy and privacy remains. That is, insofar as the effort put into taking the utmost care of their clients gives the feeling of being a member of a most selective club.” Therefore any secrecy is more the case of privacy, discretion and absolute confidence in all but legal and fiscal obligations.”

End

Gaining access to Swiss private banks can be difficult and for many even intimidating. This is because those new to it just do not know what to do and can be prone to making the beginning stressful. Some Private banks will not even speak to a new enquiry without a reference from an existing client. Those with the funds but not the right connections can contact: info@build4u.ch to receive guidance and support to choose the bank most suitable and make the first contact and meeting.

Those wishing to become a private trader on the stock and futures markets can also be advised as to how to set up their own trading account with a Geneva Trading Bank.

- If The Stress Hurts Is It Love?

Last week I went to see my bank manager for unforseen reasons he was not there. Instead I was greeted by a smart young man, who was well informed, polite and who had a touch of old world charm and respect. He was intelligent, flexible and found a way to accommodate my every demand. No doubt you will want to know what bank this is and to whom was I talking however, I will come to that later.

During the course of our meeting it is natural that we needed to get to know each other. He asked me about my work as a life trainer, personal coach and ASR-KEY Therapy coaching for stress, overwhelm, burnout. As our conversation took more time than intended it was necessary to conclude our business after lunch.

As soon as I arrived in the afternoon the first thing the young manager asked was, can love relationships cause harmful stress? If ever one word could paint a picture he had just spoken a thousand words. His face showed the pain that was causing him considerable stress. The story was clear and he was plainly asking for help albeit discreetly and telepathically. Emotionally he was transferring the feeling of his pain.

I got the picture and needed some more detail in order to point him in the right direction. I note as follows what happened without any fear of indiscretion and that is why I cannot mention the identity of the bank. I note this story because it is a familiar one that affects both personal and professional lives. Sadly too often too many people suffer unnecessarily or for the wrong reasons.

For the sake of ease I will call this young man George. George had a close relationship with a beautiful young woman who I will call Maria. George is intelligent, he knows what he wants and has a sensitivity. This emotional sensitivity is quite common in many young men. Unfortunately they are mostly taught to hide it rather than recognise and take charge of it. They are for this reason prone to being hurt. George explained how he and Maria had been more than close for well over a year. They saw each other on a daily basis. It seemed that Maria was committed to the relationship and at the same time she was apparently experimenting. George was clearly naturally polite and fearful of offending anyone especially Maria, so he covered his hurt feelings also tried to ignore his mounting anguish and emotions.

George’s pain was in the hurtful things that maria would say without apparently any understanding of the meaning to George or consequences of her words or actions. George said nothing and kept his hurt in silence. One day George decided that despite their apparent love and attraction for each other their cultural, home and education differences were probably the reason for Maria’s behaviour and his pain. What was beginning to awaken in him was the question was this really love?

He took the bull by the horns and decided that to continue with the relationship meant more suffering for him. He was not getting what he needed in a relationship and and on top he was suffering. George broke off the relationship. Following that it is natural that he felt guilty, troubled and unsure. By chance they met at an evening out at a theatre. They chatted politely and eventually Maria went off with her friends and George felt terrible seeing her leave without him. Had he made a regrettable mistake? Now he really was hurting inside.

Talking with George I asked him about his feeling that he had already explained concerning the gulf of awareness between himself and Maria. I also asked him about his thoughts about whether their relationship was really love. George realised from listening to his own answers to these questions that he had made the right assessment. Though tough, he knew the decision he had taken was the most appropriate action for his own balance and happiness.

Clearly George’s stress was lifting as we spoke, even so he explained that he still had the emotional pain that had not gone away. Well to Life coaches and NLP Therapists this is a common problem and there are many methods to neutralise or delete the emotional memory and therefore the pain. Together George and I worked through a process of elimination that took just a few minutes. After which George took a deep breath , let out a long sigh and his smile shone through him again, his eyes lit up and he was happy and confident once more. Gearge called me few days later to say thank you, also that he felt so much more relaxed and his stress had eased quite naturally.

The above story is a classic example of how hurt emotions, assumptions, limiting beliefs and formiliar but unhelpful behaviours take control of personal balance, harmony, confidence, motivation and much more. However neither Maria nor George were totally culpable, while each played their part and had responsibilities. Maria was not clear what she wanted. She was experimenting with life and with George. She was playing emotional games that George was not equiped to handle. She was harder than George and her values were not clear and certainly she may have had a love for George but she was not in love.

For George’s part, he knew what he wanted, he was disciplined, discreet, loving and caring. Perhaps this was attractive and at the same time too much for Maria to cope with. While these are admirable qualtities unfortunately or may be fortunately, George has neither yet learnt the importance of respectfully asserting his feelings nor the complexities of the mind games that women are prone to playing, especially when maturing and particularly when unsure of themselves and what they want in life.

I say fortunately because this relationship was clearly a learning process for them both. George had woken up to the fact that for him the couple was painful and any future in the same style of relationship would be even more hurtful and stressful. For a while he was being the victim and doing nothing about it. This had the result that emotionally he was suffering also his stress levels were climbing fast. Furthermore, Maria was possibly learning that she could say or do anything without taking any of the consequences. Possibly she also realised that she could play with Georges emotions and that gave her a feeling of power over him. If so this had or certainly would have lead to a lack of respect for George.

Although the details of the story may be different from others, most similar stressful situations develop because of a fear to stand up, speak up and air feelings, emotions and points of view. I have a considerable experience of life and have learnt these same lessons somewhere along the way. So it is with due regard and consideration that I understand how easy it is to get caught in a trap at work or in a relationship. The fear of an argument with a loved one, a work coleauge or a superior, for the sake of clearing the air and self assertion is a high price to pay and a very slippery slope. However as in the case of George and Maria despite George’s worst fears it eventually came unstuck and by his own choice and his own action. He knew what was right, even so it still hurt emotionally and yes, there is now a gap in his life.

The same applies in the work environment, failing to stand up to the office bully and express feelings and opinions can cause unpleasant problems including mounting stress. Office bullies only exist because of their strategy to hide their own doubts, fears and incompetency. Once people stand up to them in the correct manner they are exposed. They themselves know their own vulnerability and that is why they build a substantial self protective defence and support group. Such people build their power base by deminishing other peoples confidence. The solution is to analise them, their strategies and protective structure also their Achilles heel. Then you have the key to dismantling their secure base and their destructive power. Watch the film ‘The Pelican Brief’ with Julia Roberts and Denzel Washington to see how these strategies work.

As George found that when doing this there is always a price to pay, certainly to start with. Self doubt will invariably try to creep in, also in taking a leading or leader position it is important to follow through and that takes thought, focus, planning and leadership and guts. For most who just want to get on with their job in peace, this is not easy. However, do this and the rewards are a thousand fold more than the price or investment paid in the beginning for standing your ground. If successful do not expect it to stop there. There will be further ramifications, new challenges also aventually greater rewards.

Stress at home or work can really mount to enormous levels sometimes leading to burnout. It is not everyone that wants to be a leader or has the leadership to mobilise support to bring down a corrupting or damaging situation. This delima raises a number of options. Attack and risk getting burnt. Accept the situation and avoid getting in the line of fire. Join forces with the corrupting element and pay whatever the price demanded and always knowing that one day you will eventually be found out. Then there is a final choice fraught with its own emotional problems. It is what George decided to do. Take action and change your environment. Be prepared for difficulties and take the responsability for your actions. If need be set up your support person or support group in advance.

This is difficult for many people because it has connotations of running away. Nonetheless, the stress of staying put or enduring something you know to be bad, corrosive or even evil is dangerous for your health. Also it is bad for your immune system, life balance, happiness, family, career and personal development.

Yes, repeatedly changing jobs or relationships because there are relationship difficulties, is perhaps not a good thing and indicates personal discipline and other problems. However staying put and suffering as the victim is also another form of running away. It is running away from the responsibility to care for yourself

Stress and stress management is a personal matter. The emotional connotations are all to do with personal or inner leadership. Deciding what you want and then finding how best to achieve it is your inner motivator. Planning the best support you need to do that is your success strategy. Therefore managing and reducing stress all start by analysing and changing oneself rather than analysing and shifting the blame on anyone else.

END

For information about a telephone consultation on stress and burnout contact robertpaul at: info@asr-key.ch

I strongly advise self determination, inner leadership and self help, stress, overwhelm and burnout are far from simple. Therefore external help, guidance and support is important. I have been through the most serious long term stress and devastating burnout myself. This is no bla-bla training from the classroom rather real time experience plus years of study to understand what happened, why and how to start a new life.

Robert Denton will be giving a 90 minute presention on ASR-KEY Therapy at the Conference of the Institute for the Advanced Studies for Health on the 7th September 2008 at Doubletrees Hotel, San Francisco. For more information go to www.nlpiash.org

Stress, Cancer other conditions and spontaneous healing is covered in a new book called Activating Spontaneous Healing by Robert P. Denton.

The book is now available in E-Book form and is expected to be released in paperback format during the autumn of 2008.

Information about ‘Activating Spontaneous Healing’ and ordering can be found at www.asr-key.ch/announcements.

Banks and Mortgage Foreclosure - How stressful?

Loosing your house and home is without doubt one of the most stressful things that can happen to anyone. Just the thought of loosing your home is perhaps almost as stressful or may be even worse because negative emotions do terrible things to imagination.

Prolonged high stress causes the body to produce high levels of the stress hormone cortisol. One of the many known side affects of cortisol is risk aversion. This means that for example: rather than risking talking to your bank manager about the situation you freeze, do nothing even when you get the first letter from the bank.

Another chemical also produced at the same time out of the same adrenal gland that produces cortisol is the hormone Adrenalin known as the ‘fight ot flight hormone’. combined with cortisol these two chemicals can cause the freeze or flight in panic and do nothing strategy rather than fighting to save your home.

Allowing fear to take control limits your options. This happens because you dramatically increase stress and the production of cortisol in your body. That leads to a risk aversion strategy, which can rapidly take you to hasty and wrong decisions that you may well regret later. Otherwise it may lead you into a state of paralysis where you do nothing until the dreaded letter of foreclosure falls through the letter or mail box.

One solution to help stay in control is to talk to people who know and find out all the options available to you. The more you take action to stay ahead of the situation the better for you and keeping stress under control.

The better you keep stress under control the better your chances of averting a tradgedy or a multiple tradgedy.

There are undoubtedly many options that you have no idea about.

It all starts by taking action as early as possible. Time is valuable so give yourself as much time as possible.

Give yourself time to find and consider your best options or option.

Avoid making hasty decisions without seeking advice.

Be aware that in a stressed state you are at greater risk of making poor or the wrong decision.

Beware of people offering you easy options.

     Make notes and gather information.

Decent people are human like you, they like to help so go out and ask.

Beware of anyone applying scare tactics.

Talk to your local municipal offices or support centres

     Talk to your bank.

Do your best to discuss your options with someone reliable who has experience.

When in a vulnerable position think carefully before taking any new risks.

Once you have found your best solution give yourself time to consider it before taking action. At this stage a second or third opinion is invariably a good thing.

Managing Stress, Overwhelm and Burnout - The Paradox

The Truth and Paradox of Stress Recovery .

Managing stress is all about managing your feelings, beliefs, values, perceptions, assumptions and how your world looks to you. All these things make for an extremely complex process. Although similar principles apply to everyone the solutions to any one person are quite unique. However you like to cut it, the fact is that stress, overwhelm or burnout are all about doubt, perceptions, beliefs and fear. Fear particularly, comes in an infinite number of ways and forms and for that matter it also appears under a host of different names.

The next paragraphs will either stop you reading this or cause you to read on. This is an indication of how you think and what you believe. These two behaviours determine whether you are prepared to find your own leadership in curing yourself or being a victim of your environment and complaining that no one is helping you and your stress is the fault of everyone else.

The next important thing to know is that you are your own greatest healer. No one else is going to be able to fix you or your stress because your stress is a product of the thinking strategies you use.

Yes, others suitably qualified can guide you in building better strategies that do not allow situations to get out of your control. You will find that I have included some important recovery strategies towards the end of this post. AND, YES, it is only going to work for you when you decide to take back control for yourself. This is not easy because it invariably means changing some fundamental beliefs and values about you, your behaviours, your identity, how you interact with other people and situations. Your chosen function in life is also important. If this is in conflict with your self identity also specific beliefs and values especially those related to behaviour and beliefs about how others perceive you, there will be a constant stress, which keeps you on edge and that prevents you from really relaxing and being yourself.

Whatever stress looks like, feels like or sounds like, after analysis it amounts to one form of fear or another. Initially this is not evident

There are two types of fear, genuine fear and contrived fear.

Real or genuine fear is your best friend, so long as you understand its real or functional purpose. contrived or imagined fear is your worst enemy because it has no real purpose. It is only a product of your imagination, therefore it cannot help you only hinder you by encouraging that imagination cycle.

The purpose of genuine fear is to indicate that you are lacking information about your situation. The most common strategy is to stay in a state of fear rather than accept, face and analyse the fear base and what it is that is causing the fear emotion. This is not easy because the common reaction is to freeze and then run and hide. In modern stressful situations running and hiding may come in the form of avoidance, keeping a low profile, keeping out of the bosses sight, not doing anything that requires abnormal effort and certainly not anything remotely risky, etc.

Yes, fear is an emotion that indicates something is wrong, missing or not apparent. Your inner mental processess are unable to match up your situation with available information to achieve a controlled environment. To try to ignore, override or suppress feeling of fear is the worst thing to do.

It really is time to dust off your inner leadership and take control and demand to know what is the fear. Letting it run riot will cause a chain reaction from the brain to various glands that eventually produce excessive amounts of the stress hormone cortisol also adrenalin. These substances together with numerous other chemicals include such things as increased tartar build up on teeth. All those substances lead to more unhelpful chain reactions. As far as is known so far these excessive amounts of chemicals and hormones are damaging to your health in many ways. In cases of long duration and sustained high stress, the hormonal effects can be serious and life threatening.

A classic example of heightened stress and overwhelm is a sudden feeling of panic when your job, future, family, possessions and financial situation are in any way threatened in the slightest way or degree. These situations now lead to an exceedingly rapid feeling of treat and loosing control. Remember that in calmer and more confident times you would have taken these issues in your stride in a controlled manner

Real fear is an internal process signaling something is wrong. In such situations stop everything and asses the situation. Determine what information is missing. Who can supply the missing information? Who else can help, advise or guide you in obtaining the missing information or help manage the situation. What can you observe when stopping and analysing the situation? What can you do to help yourself? Work through the panic or stress in this way and you will invariably find that the situation is not as bad as first thought.

The above is a series of important practical exercises. They will calm the panic, the rising stress, the over production of Cortisol and much more.

One of the limiting side effects of sustained high levels of cortisol is risk aversion. This will lead to a fear to act in the most appropriate way possible. The spin off is that a state of being petrified takes hold and you may find yourself ridged with fear.

I mentioned above that unreal or perceived fear being your worst enemy. This type of fear is based on limiting assumptions that have not been verified. It is a common practice of many people to jump to unreal assumptions and conclusions based on little more than misleading bits of information. Imagined fear is your worst enemy because the imagination can be so much more creative than logic thinking processes. Logical assessment, cool headed management and fact finding usually takes time and certainly far longer than panic or knee jerk reactions. Thus the feeling can be that there is no time for cool headed control and that is where panic takes an even greater hold and your stress goes up through the roof.

Managing your stress is your greatest chance of recovery. Even if you have to beat yourself up mentally to recognise the underlying fear, it is your best hope. Make it your first reaction as soon as you are aware of a stress attack. STOP whatever you are doing mentally or even also physically step back and do a quick analysis of the situation. Remember the exercises above, ask: What information are you missing? Who has that information? Who else can help or advise?

Do everything you can to take back the control of the situation and your emotions. Watch out for unfounded or unsafe assumption, they are a trap, which raise your stress even higher. Check all the detail. When stress levels rise drastically there is a strong tendency to over emphasis negative aspects of the situation and to miss important information or solutions.

Breaking the vicious cycle of stress and cortisol production levels is your first priority. Develop a strategy of becoming super cool, efficient and methodical in your assessment and management of the situation. Usually there is far more time than you believe or imagine. If not, make it your first priority to find ways to make more time or give yourself more time to do the best things to come out covered in glory not covered in sh-t.

An important part of the stress/fear emotion has an urgent element of time. The paradox is that taking time to control time is crucially important in eliminating the fear, the emotion and the stress, all based on a perception of a lack of time.

I strongly advise self determination, inner leadership and self help, stress, overwhelm and burnout are far from simple. Therefore external help, guidance and support is important. I have been through the most serious long term stress and devastating burnout. This is no bla-bla training from the classroom rather real time experience plus years of study to understand what happened, why and how to start a new life.

Healing Cancer

As a gifted healer for over 25 years and covering many countries the mystery of why some people were healed instantly and others not was the prime convincer that this was not some mysterious spiritual event but something real. Therefore, there had to be a logical explanation. Clearly spiritual beliefs had no worthwhile and verifiable answers so I turned my attention to medical science.

A 15 year analysis, study and research guided by medical research proved to be the path to unravelling the many questions that had to be answered. In order to make some logical sense out of those many years of involvement in untold healing sessions, it became clear that only medical know-how would break the code. What was the objective of all that work? This was partly to understand how the healing worked and partly to improve the success rate.

In a nut shell the combined answers involve many complex issues. It is nonetheless the years of study of the human body and psyche with unfaltering observation and analysis of past case histories that made sense of the whole healing process and my own healing gift.

Yes, there is a process and it is amazing how some grasp it so easily while others have great difficulty with accepting the principles. This simply goes to highlight how each person is completely unique and also an insight into personal development.

The answer partly lies in a fundamental belief system that guides our individual and unique lives. It is the concept of self responsibility. Generally speaking my own case histories of cancer patients have fallen into two categories. (1). Those that take full responsibility for themselves and their lives, decisions and everything. (2). Those who believe the world owes them something and someone always has to be responsible and it is never themselves.

Naturally there are variations to these two groups. Slight variations may make no difference and then there is always a cut off point. That cut off point is where the process of the immune system and inner healer stops working fully. So essentially the healing process works best in situations where the person involved takes responsibility for themselves. Next they have a tendency not to take no for an answer. Furthermore they may seek help and even so, albeit in a subtle way, do not seed control to those helping.

There is what seems to be a paradox in that group (1) maintain control and self responsibility and their subtle awareness gives them the capability to let go at the right moment during treatment. What does this mean? It has much to do with confidence intuition and telepathy. These are natural capabilities that we all have but mostly ignore. Letting go at the right or critical moment in the therapy process is crucial to success or reactivating your inner heale r and spontaneous healing. That is confidence at the conscious discernable level and confidence at the intuitive level. The conscious level is awareness, feelings, observation and assessment. The intuitive level is the knowledge of the inner intelligence that knows exactly what the problem is and what it needs to fix it.

ASR-KEY Therapy has proved successful in untold cases. However that does not mean that only group (1) have any chance of being healed. Just as both groups were important in understanding the process of inner or spontaneous healing and how to activate it, so the process has within itself the code for moving those in group (2) into group (1).Group (2) have some preliminary work to do in relation to beliefs, values and may be some other issues.

The key was in understanding that what I was doing as a healer was in understanding that I was somehow triggering or reactivating spontaneous remission or healing, that is reactivating the bodies own or innate healing process. In principle this is frequently what doctors do despite issuing numerous medicines. That is before entering the relms of very dangerous treatments that can be more damaging than the disease itself. A complex emotional process frequently happens during the consultation period. The key can be in a series of bits of infromation or a short comment, possibly just one word in the perfect context. That information or word triggers the innate healing process, which is called spontaneous remission. As wonderful as that is the result is haphasard.

The science and art of ASR-KEY Therapy is to understand where the trigger point is and how to release it. Almost all doctors have the unpleasant duty to tell a cancer client there is nothing else they can do, they have three months to live. Many doctors also have the experience of one of those lost causes walking back into their surgery six months later with not a sign of cancer. If the best treatment available could not help what did happen to make the difference. The answer is in ASR-KEY Therapy. Medical science is working day and night to find a treatment to activate a cells senescence program. This is a program in the caner cells program that can stop the cell from reproducing more cancer cells. ASR Therapy is this and more, what is more there no medical treatment.

Why reactivating the inner healer? The inner healer is working constantly to keep our bodies in check and functioning correctly. In life there are many internal and external events that can upset and block the inner healing system in certain ways. These are many and may include contact with carcinogenic substances, triggering genetic time clocks and emotional shocks. All four of these groups can and usually happen without our awareness. Not all but many types of cancer can be traced back to one of these events or happenings. The result is that the body’s inner healing system becomes blocked or corrupted and certain cells loose their normal healthy management program and become rogue cells developing out of all control thus developing what is broadly known as a cancer tumour.

There is a fourth and important category that includes stress and any emotional disturbances that have been ignored or actively suppressed. This is an important issue that notably came to light during a number of extraordinary and special case histories.

To cut a long story short ASR-KEY Therapy works by finding where the corrupting influence is, then disabling that negative influence followed by helping to reactivate the original inner healing management program that has been blocked or disabled where upon the inner healer activates its own spontaneous healing process.

The irony is that those reading this who immediately feel it all makes sense will be those who naturally fall within group (1) and those who think it’s a load of old rubbish will be those who veer towards group (2). Please do not be offended or discouraged. Many of those I found in group (2) were able to change with the aid of ASR KEY Threapy and have been some of the most notable and fantastic cases of immediate healing and remission.

MORE DEADLY THAN FEAR

Reading the article on ‘brain fitness’ in the International Herald Tribune May 3-4 2008 raises the serious concern many people have about loosing mental dexterity or contracting Alzheimer’s disease. As is so often the case with such mass paranoia, there is a tendency to follow the herd and go with the lemmings over the cliff. Fearing what you believe is likely to happen is just the likely recipe to actually cause it to happen

Observation of people and behaviours are I feel as important as all the fear that is being proliferated by (a) the press and (b) the many companies producing brain exercising games, mental exercises or computer programs to solve the problem. These plus others are possibly the beliefs about retirement that are more deadly than fear itself.

In my experience those people with Alzheimer’s disease that came to my attention had lost their way, lost their sense of identity and or purpose, lost someone or interest in life and therefore lost reason to live. Yes, the expression “if you don’t use it you’ll loose it” hits home with a deadly truth. However, it is important to recognise just what it is that one needs to keep the ball of life rolling in our autumn years.

To answer this question I feel we need to look at associated conditions and historical events. It is well known in medical circles how many people (notably men) drop dead soon after retiring. One of my own acquaintances talked to me often of his fear and dread of the day he had to retire from his job, which was approaching fast.

His passion was his city job and it was clear to see that his function in the city of London had become his identity. Catching the 07:55 to the city every week day and returning with his news paper and neatly rolled umbrella was his identity image that spoke volumes about his workplace, authority and respectability.

He was wise enough to know that the day after he retired he would have no purpose, no image and no identity. He had spent long hours planning with utter despair how he would spend each day of his retirement. So far all he had managed to do was buy a bicycle with the intention of at least getting out of the house and doing some physical exercise. The Saturday morning after his office retirement party he set out on his new mountain bike sharp at 09:00. by 09:10 he was dead. The autopsy said death was caused by a massive heart attack. He was dead before his body hit the road.

That was more than 25 years ago and little was known about stress, the stress hormone cortisol or how stress and cortisol kills.

Now look at the number of people who live to great ages, look closely enough and you will find that they have never retired. Like the saying: “old soldiers keep marching on, they don’t die they just fade away.”

It is purpose, values, reason to be, identity and even image that keeps our brains alive, well and kicking until they finally fade away in extreme old age. Keeping busy with a purpose and a clear identity is the life force that keeps the brain working and creating new brain cells, thought pathways and synaptic buttons and gaps.

If you want to retire it is better to find something to do that is absorbing and requires some effort. The more challenging that is the better. Challenges are the stuff that work the brain to find solutions. I’m not convinced at all that all these games and mind exercises are going to be the panacea their creators claim. Certainly they represent challenge and what about purpose, reason to be and identity. ‘I’m a retired mental puzzle solver’ is hardly going to excite the most important life drivers in our brains and inner intelligence. Solving other people’s or artificial problems just for the sake of doing it has no lasting meaning. It is the meaning in our lives that is so powerful and that drives us to have a purpose to get up for in the morning even when we are 102.

The greatest challenge for many retiring people is to find a purpose to be. The problem is they do not know it, and that is the danger and where the decline starts. Therefore the paradox seems to be that if you want to have a long and enjoyable retirement you had better keep yourself very busy. Also you had better find a real and meaningful purpose that fulfils your need for a definite identity and incidentally it had better be one, which fits your internal image.

For information about a telephone consultation on stress and burnout contact robertpaul at: info@asr-key.ch

I strongly advise self determination, inner leadership and self help, stress, overwhelm and burnout are far from simple. Therefore external help, guidance and support is important. I have been through the most serious long term stress and devastating burnout. This is no bla-bla training from the classroom rather real time experience plus years of study to understand what happened, why and how to start a new life.

Fear is my friend and occasional companion.

I trust my sense of fear because it keeps me safe.

It keeps me safe because I trust it to warn me of what I am not fully aware of.

I take notice of the message it passes to me instead of becoming irrationally controlled by unreal fear, confusion and panic.

I have learnt to recognise that when I sense fear that I am lacking information or logical awareness and focus on what I am doing.

I understand that unreal fear means to me loosing control, rejection or failure, or loosing something I value.

I understand these things are only in my mind.

When I sense fear at the same time I am sensing my own inadequacies.

My response to fear is therefore to acquire those things that I need to build my confidence. Firstly I build my confidence by analysing my sense of fear then gathering those things that will build my experience and confidence.

When I sense fear I analyse that feeling.

When I have completed this properly I know that the fear has done its job.

I have found what action and only when it is complete will the sense of fear disappear into a feint wisp of nothingness because it has been replaced by a sense of confidence, control and security.

I recently read a comment that said the G7 countries and national standard banks could close down privare banks over night if they do not conform to demands because the private banks depend on them to do their trade. I’m not convinced that the private banks depend on the standard banks across the market range.

Certainly standard banks do depend on private banks. Why else would practically every self-respecting standard bank have an independent branch in or an affiliation with a private bank in Switzerland.

If the world’s governments break Suisse banking privacy laws, one option is that the banks could move the goal posts and maybe forget to tell anyone.

It may be a moral issue for governments who want to whip the rich and super rich who choose not to be fleeced. As Johnny Halliday so eloquently commented on the French governments policy to help him reduce his own fortune even after he has paid tax at the appropriate rate, thus moving his home and tax base to Switzerland.

It’s not just the privacy and private banks that people come to Switzerland, they also like to come here for the taxation strategy. I.e. respecting people’s rights to amass a fortune without fleecing those fortunates, like a bad sheep sheerer cutting all the arteries and the flock who grow the wealth bleeding to death. Talk about killing the golden goose and the left wing blind leading the jealous.

National governments will never see the rational of the rich wanting to protect their estate because that is the only way governments seem to be able to collectively think. The rational is this. Through the private banks private investors are putting their money where it works and creates jobs, millions of jobs around the world.

Do you really want to screw up ( to put it not to finely) a system that works quite well for the sake of a few million dollars. Right, OK, then the investors will simply take their 6 trillion$ away from factories and industry in general and also government bonds, then put their money into something like gold or diamonds or precious works of art that create no jobs and then millions of people will loose their work and even some countries may go into decline as a result of rocketing unemployment costs and lost taxes that will likely far exceed what they are hoping (there is no guarantee that those they want to chase have done anything wrong, much of it is suspicions and rumours) to gain by breaking the Suisse private banking laws.

Break the Suisse private banking and privacy laws and something will evolve to fill the gap and that may just play into the hands of criminal money and new forms of laundering. There is nothing so creative as the money that gets the very best to think creatively. There is nothing like a dame good reason like protecting your money to release that creativity.

Remember, it’s the standard banks that are in financial trouble not the private banks. The standard banks like other companies launch new rights issues when they need to recapitalise to cover up the mess from lousy management mistakes. Take a safe haven away and those fund raising efforts might just not happen. Then think of the mess when the standard banks start going to the wall big time.

There are many other reasons why the standard banks will not or are reluctant to rock the boat. Cutting off the hand that feeds them is perhaps one of the most painful and self destructive. It is not in their interests to do it, it is not in our interests (the ordinary people) and it is not in the interests of nations to do it.

Other governments can only see the big stick strategy to pay for their own appalling mess and continual cock-up. This whole affair is more to do with smoke screens, limited strategies and jealousy of the Suisse way of government.

It is nature and natural to protect what we work hard for. Certainly serious organized crime and money laundering is an important issue. It is always important to keep a certain rational and balance. Is it really going to solve anything to throw the baby (the super rich) out with the bath water (the real bad boys)?

This really is a dilemma because those that really understand it know it is the worst thing that can happen. The trouble is that the subject is now on the table and it is not going to go away. Therefore perhaps the solution is what governments always do so well. That is to talk until the issue has become so confused that they end up solving something else and the real issue that should be left alone for everyone’s sake is lost in the bureaucratic mess.

CANCER AND OTHER SERIOUS CONDITIONS

Cancer or other serious conditions that are not responding to medical treatment usually means that treatment has so far been directed to the symptom and the body’s inner healing system is working against the treatment.

ASR-KEY therapy works in two fundamental ways. First searching out the root cause and why the body is fighting itself and secondly activating the body’s incredible self healing capability commonly known as spontaneous healing.

Our elbows touched and something instantly down loaded onto our hard drives.

Discovering how we work and what influences us and our lives is for some alarming or frightening and for others exciting and drives them to discover more. There are however those who will never be the same again.

I have just come back from a weekend of fun and overeating and drinking at a friend’s 2 day wedding bash. That was great and what really made the whole effort worthwhile was a small yet very significant comment that the bridegroom made during the speeches.

Referring to how the happy couple met and the moment they both realised and knew they were joined was at an ordinary dinner with some friends. These two people had known and worked with each other for more than ten years, never before had anything happened between them. As they sat side by side at the dinner table talking to others enjoying themselves, their elbows momentarily touched. In that instant an electric shock shot up both their arms and in their own words, “we both knew something irreversible had been downloaded onto our hard drives”.

This is no rare phenomena or phenomenon, speak to almost anyone and they will recall a similar incident in their own lives. In fact they happen so often we mostly do not realise the majority of the cases, only being marked by the really extraordinary occasions. Do not be fooled into believing that such events are the property of only happy events. It works equally effectively for the other side of life also. If you are interested to unravel those occasions, it will invariably be found that others whether present or not at the event are also conscious of what has happened.

One special quality about these electric moments is the speed, and another is the clarity. These events are truly instantaneous and perhaps occur during a tenth of a second. After one of those more dynamic connections, it is not over stating the case when I say your life is changed forever in some important or devastating way.

There are many ways that cancer starts, some are environmental and habitual contact or inhalation of carcinogenic substances, like blue asbestos, nicotine and cigarettes. Others are associated with dangerous situations such as x-rays, nuclear radiation and similar. Most of these can be avoided if we choose to.

Then there are those causes that we have little or no idea about. The genetic body clock cancer time bombs ticking away in our DNA. There are also the sudden and devastating traumas that hit our lives in a fleeting moment of time. Though we may be aware of the cataclysmic shock to our systems as our emotions and feelings go into free fall or crash about inside our heads like a loose cannon in a ship that is being tossed around like a cork in a storm.

Such sudden and dramatic shocks to our internal balance systems have far reaching affects. Unless they are properly addressed in time allowing the emotional traumas to heal they may only show themselves much later in the form of cancer tumours.

A life trauma is not the only source of corrupting your internal balance. It can be as little as a few words deliberately aimed at you like a barbed arrow, by another with the deliberate intention of hurting. Often it can be a small part of a conversation accidentally overheard or a casual ignorant comment that touches an emotional sensitivity that releases a tsunami effect. These things crash through your beliefs and values systems with an unstoppable force until cell management programs are left in tatters and ruin. What is more is that you are fully aware that something is happening inside to your emotions and that you are suffering.

This is one of the paradoxes of life, the same process that can bring us so much joy and happiness can also release so much misery and disaster. My friends in their moment of joy with all their friends started with a fleeting touch of elbows. In an instant via a momentary telepathic exchange (yes, telepathy also works through the medium of the elbow) their lives were changed forever. Another type of tsunami cascaded through every cell of their bodies and they felt and were conscious of all 50 billions cells jumping with joy and anticipation.

The tragedy is that we know how to share our joy with others by throwing a party. Mostly instead of doing something similar when we are seriously hurt inside, we bury our fears, pain and injured emotions in our own silence. That silent rumination is the continued and unstoppable tsunami that only comes to rest when it has no where else to go and finally runs out of steam. By then it has done terrible damage to cell programs and that is when cells become disorientated and loose their guidance program, so becoming uncontrollably destructive like the ships loose cannon in a storm, crashing into and splintering everything that it touches.

The following is one solution and be warned it is blatant advertising for a solution that has touched and helped many people. It is ASR-KEY Therapy, which came about through decades of study in understanding spontaneous remission or healing.

Spontaneous healing is when the body suddenly for no obvious reason heals itself. There is, however, always a reason for this and it has existed since man climbed out of his primordial soup. Another paradox is that it is the same process that had thrown your cell programming into confusion in the first place. Understanding how to activate spontaneous healing took over forty years of experience, observation and study.

The story of ASR-KEY Therapy and how it works is too long to recount here. However I have written a book called ‘Activating Spontaneous Healing’, which explains how spontaneous healing works and why it cannot work until something, the right thing makes that lightening fast shift inside you. It can happen accidentally like two peoples elbows touching unintentionally or it can happen by finding what has already occurred to upset your system so badly. Then it is simply a matter of repairing the damage with another miracle of the human body that everyone has within themselves.

END

RECOVERY FROM STRESS, OVERWHELM AND BURNOUT

Burnout Recovery is all to do with the cause and the degree of burnout. First it is important to know that burnout is not an illness like depression. Burnout is a state of self protection. It is a need for internal healing and recovery from damage to the brain and body, largely as a result of prolonged and excessive amounts of cortisol known as the stress hormone. See previous articles for more information on how cortisol damages and inhibits muscle tissue, poisons brain cells, damages thought pathways and causes loss of short term memory. Some of these articles are as follows: “Stress is to Burnout as LG is to Recovery”, “How Deadly is Overwhelming Stress?”, “Stress Overwhelm and Burnout! The Paradox”, “Emotions; What are They and How Do They Affect our Lives?”

By ‘a state of self protection, internal healing and recovery’, I mean that it appears that an inner body intelligence certainly in the form of cortisol and its hormonal information program, has shut down the ability to work or in severe cases even to think. That is to say thinking or focusing for even a short time will rapidly induce extreme mental fatigue. Certainly part of this fatigue is due to the factthat in burnout substantial thought pathways in the brain have be damaged or destroyed. That is until sufficient healing and recovery has taken place and new thought pathways can be created. Therefore it is important to understand that any recovery strategy is key to what happens next.

Trying to get better exercising the mind is perhaps the worst thing to do, trying simply causes more stress. Certainly in the beginning the most important yet most difficult thing to do is first let go of everything. Next to focus whatever capability to think you have at your disposition, on the pursuit of rest, relaxation, enjoyment and most of all having as much fun and laughter as possible. Why fun and laughter? Well these behaviours reduce performance, competition and other stress activities that produce cortisol. You cannot be stressful while rocking with laughter. Your main objective is to keep cortisol production to absolute normal levels. Reduced cortisol well below normal levels may be as dangerous as too much.

The things to avoid and protect yourself from during your recovery period at any cost are excessive or abnormal levels or ideas of retaining responsibility, duty, working, performance, competition and anything that is disagreeable. This includes, limiting perceptions, negative assumptions, limiting beliefs and all the values and expectations that drove you to disaster in the first place.

This is a period of natural reflection also a time to profit by deeper self awareness of who you are, what is most important to you and what you want in the future

There are many levels of stress, overwhelm and burnout. So speeding the recovery of whatever your level of suffering does depend very much on understanding what is happening at the emotional, psychological and medical or physical levels.

High stress, overwhelm and burnout can hit anyone but these states tend to happen more frequently to people who are high achievers or aim to be high achievers. People who are extremely focused and caring about giving a quality service, who want things in their control to be as perfect and effective as possible are at greatest risk. These groups of people tend to put great effort and long hours of hard work into pleasing and putting others and other matters before themselves or their own needs.

They can also be extremely self critical and thus self demanding, which is one way they raise their stress levels. That does not necessarily mean they are hard or thick skinned. These people may give an external appearance of being tough and highly capable. Underneath they are emotionally sensitive and extremely giving by nature. Learning to be thicker skinned and demanding that others take more of their own responsibility and personal leadership is certainly something for stress sensitive people to work on.

These people can be very intelligent and sensitive to others people’s perceptions, comments and criticisms. The also tend to be good at reading body language also sensitive to untuitive and telepathic reasoning. There in lies their vulnerability to creating their own high stress and eventual burnout. Other people may create situations without any idea how someone stress sensitive people will find that situation stressful. Therefore stress evolves out of our own perception and personal style of inner leadership and drive. Changing these things is not easy and usually requires qualified support.

My own experience of going through the most severe burnout has taught me an incredible amount about my own psychology and about how the body, the mind and body/mind works. Burnout victims invariably take upon themselves responsibility for peripheral issues far beyond reasonable standards. They take matters concerning their work or duties very seriously. Externally it may not appear so, however, internally there is an enormous amount going on constantly. It is this aspect that there is never really any rest or time for complete relaxation and simply having fun. Because stress sensitive people are self motivated they may spend a great deal of their time or thinking time alone and may even be considered ‘loners’. Consequently their life is virtually 24/7 focusing on their work or responsibilities. One important recovery strategy is to find a confidant or mentor who is completely trustworthy. Then begin to share their thoughts. This maybe difficult because it is contrary to their normal behaviour strategies. Everything shared must be in total confidence.

The reader will now I hope begin to understand that the most powerful and destructive essence of high stress, overwhelm and burnout are their beliefs, values and behaviours. Also how these factors interact with their environment. Other important associated psychological issues are perceptions, assumptions and expectations.

The subject and therefore a truly effective recovery process is consequently complex. There is no one cure-all like taking a spoon of medicine, morning, noon and evening. Recovery is in understanding ones own behaviours, beliefs, values, identity, function, perceptions, assumptions and expectations. Then finding what is hurting also those thoughts that are limiting or unhelpful.

A burnout recovery process is like few other illnesses where the objective is to get back to work as quickly as is reasonable. No, quite the opposite. Burnout recovery is about change and not doing what you did that got you in such trouble. Burnout recovery is to re-learn, re-program, learning to do your life in a different way with different beliefs, values, perceptions, assumptions and expectations and very possibly it all starts with examining beliefs about identity and function, (your job).

This issue of learning to do things in a different way is far more important than might be apparent. In my book ‘Activating Spontaneous Healing’ currently only obtainable in e-book format from info@asr-key.ch/announcements and to be published in paperback form most probably in the autumn 2008 In the book I talk a great deal about the body’s inner intelligence and it is something that I found dominant in my own burnout recovery. Inner intelligence is like a self protection process or unconscious control that is perhaps more easily recognised as an internal guardian angel. In reality it is a complex mixture of emotions, muscle memory and hormone production triggered by those other factors. Hormones act like instruction manuals or performance programs. In this case they work like knee jerk reactions. Do the wrong thing, i.e. try to think or worse to work and you will be slapped down and knocked back in your burnout or overwhelm recovery by an instant and relentless crushing feeling of unbelievable mental and physical fatigue. The message is very clear. It simply and crudely says: don’t do that. The more you persist the more you will be slapped down until the day you learn to change and think about your life and future quite differently.

This is like the Pavlov conditioned reflexes, where under certain conditions or stimulants you automatically behave in a certain way. The inner intelligence protection mechanism is guiding or training you with a big stick to wipe out the old automatic behaviour patterns that triggers your reactions to do what you did before. This is an evolutionary process that can take as long or short a time as you choose. It is this simple, nonetheless difficult to understand or put into action. The faster you learn to change the beliefs, values, behaviours, perceptions, expectations that lead to your burnout, the faster your recovery. Once the penny has dropped and you begin to realise exactly what is happening, your recovery will start to progress faster. Therefore, because you are likely quite intelligent you may be able to work out the next steps for yourself. However, if you like reinventing the wheel and everything that came after as a result, then so be it. In which case I suggest you consider taking four or more years in your recovery. Whereas, by taking a little help and guidance from someone who knows what to do, can save you a great deal of time and pain.

While I talk a lot about the power of the body’s inner healer system being the most powerful of all healing arts, one of the paradoxes is that it is not always capable of activating itself. Therefore, for more complex problems such as high stress, overwhelm and burnout, you do really require help from someone with practical and real experience rather than someone with a head full of theory.
